Who is InkTree for?

InkTree is designed for adult children who want to preserve their parents' stories, parents who wish to share their memories with family, and family historians looking to document their family's legacy.

What do I need before I start?

You'll need a smartphone or computer with a camera and microphone, a stable internet connection, a verified phone number, and the willingness to schedule regular calls with your family members.

Circles and invites

What is a circle?

A circle is your private group on InkTree where you can connect with specific family members. Think of it as your personal storytelling space. Each circle can include the people you want to have conversations with, and all calls and recordings within that circle are kept private to its members.

How do I invite my mom or dad?

To invite your parent, go to your circle settings and select 'Invite Member.' Enter their phone number or email address, and they'll receive an invitation link. You can also share the invite link directly through text message or email.

Can people join without installing the app?

Yes! Family members can join calls through their web browser without downloading the app. However, installing the app provides a better experience with features like call reminders, easier access to recordings, and improved call quality.

Calls and scheduling

How do scheduled calls work?

Scheduled calls work like virtual appointments. Choose a date and time that works for both you and your family member, and InkTree will send reminders to both parties before the call. The call will be recorded automatically with everyone's consent.

What happens if my parent misses a call?

If your parent misses a scheduled call, don't worry! You can easily reschedule for another time. Both parties will receive a notification about the missed call, and you'll have the option to set up a new time.

How to reschedule or cancel?

To reschedule or cancel a call, go to your upcoming calls list, select the call you want to change, and choose either 'Reschedule' or 'Cancel.' All participants will be notified of the change.

Accounts and phone verification

Why do you need my phone number?

We require phone verification to ensure the security of your account and to prevent spam. Your phone number helps us send you important notifications about scheduled calls. We never share your phone number with third parties.

What to do if verification fails?

If phone verification fails, check that you've entered the correct phone number with the right country code. Make sure you have good cellular reception or try connecting to Wi-Fi. Contact support@inktree.com if the problem persists.

Call did not ring - what should I check?

If you didn't receive a call notification, ensure your device's notifications are enabled for InkTree, verify you have a stable internet connection, and confirm the scheduled time was correct including timezone.

Troubleshooting

I cannot find my recordings

Your recordings are stored in your circle's archive. Go to your circle and look for the 'Recordings' or 'Archive' section. Some recordings may take a few minutes to process before appearing.

My parent is not tech savvy - what should I do?

Consider doing the first call together in person to walk them through the process. They can join calls through a web browser without downloading anything. Keep first calls short to build confidence - it gets easier with each call!

Is my data private and secure?

Yes, your privacy is our priority. All your recordings, conversations, and personal information are securely stored and only accessible to members of your circle. We use encryption to protect your data and never share your information with third parties.
